"Evaluating Public Schools": DFMC Link-up

DFMC AUGUST LINK-UP

Evaluating the Performance of Our Public Schools

August 6, 2015

Please join Democracy for Monroe County for an exciting and timely link-up on evaluating the performance of our public schools. There has been a lot of discussion on what is wrong with the current approach to testing as a means of evaluation, but there has not been enough consideration of why we need to evaluate the effectiveness of our schools and how we might accomplish that (or those) evaluations.  How do we best tell how well our schools are doing?

Our panelists are:

Mike Walsh, currently associate director of Indiana University High School, has 32 years of teaching experience and 12 years of middle school administrative experience.

Phil Harris, currently executive director of the Association for Educational and Communication Technology, previously a faculty member at Indiana University. Co-author of  "The Myths of Standardized Tests: Why They Don't Tell You What You Think They Do”

Rep. Matt Pierce, Indiana State Representative for District 61, previously Chief of Staff for Congressman Baron Hill (9th District)

Come join us for great conversation and (optionally) dinner and drinks at Bobby’s Colorado Steakhouse (1635 N College Ave, Bloomington IN 47404) from 6PM-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
