Demonstration at Sen. Coats' office

Date:

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 - 12:00pm

Last month, Senator Coats voted against a raise for low wage workers and blocked discussion of the Fair Minimum Wage Act.

The Fair Minimum Wage Act will raise the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour. It will give a long needed raise for over 660,000 Hoosiers and inject over $1 billion into our state's economy.   In a state with declining incomes and a struggling economy, we need a higher minimum to put Indiana back on track.

Fair Minimum Wage Press Conference

Date:

Wednesday, July 24, 2013 - 10:30am

Indianapolis – On the fourth anniversary of the last time the minimum wage was raised, a broad coalition of local organizations, public advocates, and working families will hold a press conference to discuss the impact that raising the federal minimum wage would have for their families and the economy. The press conference will be held on Wednesday, July 24th at 10:30 am outside of Representative Andre Carson’s office at 300 E.

Event type:

High Time to Increase the Minimum Wage

July 24 was the fourth anniversary of the last time the federal minimum wage was increased—namely, to $7.25 per hour. Another increase is seriously overdue. And the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013 (S. 460, H.R. 1010) is a good way to accomplish that.

The federal minimum wage was corrected for inflation repeatedly from 1938—when first created—through 1968. But not since! We’d need a minimum wage today of about $10.56 per hour in order to match the buying power of the $1.60 per hour minimum wage of 1968.
